TU's campaign offers support
for personnel of Nokia Siemens Network
TU (01.06.2007 - Timo Kärkkäinen) In June, the Union of Salaried Employees, TU will begin a campaign aimed directly at the personnel of Nokia Siemens Network (NSN), now under real threat of losing
their jobs. Employees of the company will be offered advice as to career planning and in coping with changes in working life.
Through its campaign TU seeks to introduce a new form of service. Members will be supported even during the statutory consulting time between the employer's and employees' representatives - in
other words before any employee has been giving notice.
"In the past, this kind of campaign has not been carried out by any union", the President of TU Antti Rinne said on Thursday in Helsinki when making the campaign public. "Unions have to live in the
present time. We want to offer services that our rank of file really expect and need."
The unions have to respond fast to NSN's plan to cut 700 jobs in Finland, Rinne insists.
"We offer new support services to the employees under threat of losing their jobs. We bring close to them career guidance services and our expertise in training and in safeguarding one's
interests."
The campaign and its range of training/educational events are open to all NSN employees.
"One has not to be a TU member to participate the campaign. Everybody is welcome to the various events", Rinne assures.
TU will carry out the campaign in cooperation with AS3 Finland Oy, a company specialising in managing processes of change in working life.
The campaign truck will visit all cities or places where NSN has operations and career guidance seminars will be organised. The first event takes place 11 June in Helsinki. The other events are
organised for 12 June in Espoo, 13 June in Tampere and 15 June in Oulu.
The TU's campaign truck will show up at each NSN unit with all the available information about the services the union offers in safeguarding employee interests and also about the services connected
to the unemployment fund. Counselling in matters relating to employment will also be provided together with information on job seeking and training opportunities.
On event days, career guidance seminars will be organised in all four cities. The purpose of the seminars is to increase self-awareness of the professional capabilities the participants already
possess while assisting them at the same time in analysing their own individual abilities.
TU markets its campaign at its rank and file working for NSN, by regular mail, e-mail and mobile telephone messages. All NSN employees are invited to the events using advertisements in newspapers
covering the Greater Helsinki Area, Tampere and Oulu.
